Companies engaging in Social Media much before a crisis have an advantage in quicker communication to customers

Over the last few days I have been working with the whole team to communicate with the customers and community after Network Solutions issued an E-Commerce Data Security alert to merchants who might have been affected by an unauthorized code on servers supporting some of its ecommerce merchants’ websites. The code has been promptly removed and all of the ecommerce servers are checked regularly. No servers supporting Networksolutions.com customers were affected. More details at http://www.careandprotect.com

At Network Solutions  we have been engaging in the Social Media for  some  time now and that helped with our communications with the customer and community.  Here is a link to our post explaining how Network Solutions is using social media to act faster in a crisis. Thanks to the community who is helped us spread the word.

Increasing budget cuts due to the economy is on everyone’s mind this year. How can you advise your clients on the best strategies for engaging in social networks? What counsel can you provide in the way of guidelines, tips, and legal standards?

In this digital age and 24-hour news cycle, it’s important also for companies to be proactive in managing their web presence, especially in times of crisis. How can you best use social media to relay your message, and be within your legal rights? Join us for a breakfast meeting with Vice President of Digital Media at Levick Strategic Communications, Dallas Lawrence and TMG Strategies Vice President Gayle Weiswasser to discuss how to counsel your clients on these important issues.

This event is being sponsored by the Small Business Index: http://growsmartbusiness.com. Special thanks to Steptoe & Johnson, LLP for hosting the event.

Social Media and New Roles For Employees - BusinessWeek

Social Media and New Roles For Employees - BusinessWeek

Great article by Dan Schwebel @danschawbel in the business week. Must read for people helping their company in the social media.

My advice is take advantage of the fact that branding has been transitioned solely from the grasp of companies and their "official" brand messengers. Regardless of your job title, social media allows you to assist your company like never before, while also garnering some career protection for yourself.

I love this statement from the article 'The more employees that become brand guardians, the safer the corporate brand will be."

Ken Yancey : SCORE CEO on Fox Business News

“Treat your customers like royalty” said Ken Yancey in this interview on FoxBusinessNews. The CEO of SCORE.  Tap angel investors and friends and family for funding if banks are tight.. were among the advice for Small Business given in the interview. In these times  entrepreneurs should  pay a lot of attention to feasibility and thought while starting business and SCORE advisors can help by providing free consultancy.

Blogger appointed to GM’s helm

I was thrilled at the News that Bob Lutz who started blogging on the GM FastLane blog is back. The Gm press release says:

Bob Lutz has agreed to join the new GM as vice chairman responsible for all creative elements of products and customer relationships. Lutz and Tom Stephens, vice chairman, product development, will work together as a team, partnering with Ed Welburn, vice president of design, to guide all creative aspects of design. GM's brands, marketing, advertising, and communications will report to Lutz for consistent messaging and results. He will report to Henderson, and be part of the newly formed executive committee.

"I am pleased to announce that we are 'unretiring' Bob Lutz so he can fill this important position in the new GM," said Henderson. "He has a proven track record of unleashing creativity in the design and development of GM cars and trucks. This new role allows him to take that passion a step further, applying it to other parts of GM that connect directly with customers."

I read about Bob Lutz in Debbie Weil’s  “The Corporate Blogging book” . A few month’s ago he came to Washington DC to demonstrate eco friendly GM  vehicles to Montgomery County school kids.

Shel Israel interviewed Bob Lutz for his blog Global Neighbourhoods

As a board member at the Fortune 3 company, Lutz began blogging on GMFastLane in early 2005. FastLane has become one of a growing number of GM blogs and social media programs. FastLane has evolved into a team blog.

I am confident that Bob Lutz as vice chairman responsible for all creative elements of products and customer relationships at Gm will do a fantastic job. Congrats ! GM
