Katherine Kostereva built a studio when investors and analysts wanted a better customer relationship management (CRM) tool. That mismatch meant Creatio spent years selling into a market that didn't have a category for it yet: sales calls that opened with corrections instead of pitches, because the vocabulary for a company selling structured, no-code business applications instead of contact records didn't exist. Bookings for the first quarter of Creatio's fiscal 2027 landed at 255 percent of the prior year, the company confirmed in early August (Creatio, 2026). That number reads as sudden.
The bet behind it isn't.
The Studio Bet Arrived Before Its Own Vocabulary Did
No-code platforms in 2019 meant workflow automation for internal operations teams, not customer relationship management. Machine learning inside a CRM meant lead scoring, a feature bullet, not an architecture. Creatio built its platform on the premise that the two belonged together, years before agentic artificial intelligence gave that premise a name. The company spent that stretch explaining itself instead of selling itself. Competitors' categories fit a procurement spreadsheet. Creatio's didn't.
Boston-headquartered Creatio secured a $200 million funding round in 2024, valuing the company at $1.2 billion, led by Sapphire Ventures with participation from StepStone Group, Volition Capital, and Horizon Capital (Hu, 2024). The round didn't resolve the category question. It meant Creatio could afford to wait for the market to catch up.
The Studio Model Works for IT, Not Just Business Leaders
A studio platform changes who gets to build. A sales director watching a pipeline slip doesn't file a ticket and wait for an application team's next sprint. She opens Business Studio and configures the field, the workflow, or the agent herself. In one product demonstration I sat through, a rep pasted a block of unstructured call notes into a record. The platform read the text and populated two fields, objection category and follow-up date, without a developer writing a parsing rule. Nobody filed a ticket. Nobody waited for a sprint. The rep built the field she needed and moved on.
Information technology teams tend to like this arrangement as much as business leaders do. The company frames its Unlimited pricing and removal of per-seat friction as a growth lever, and it is one, but the request that never reaches an application team's backlog is capacity that team gets to spend somewhere else, on a core-systems migration or a security review that actually needs a developer.
Vertical Focus Is Doing the Conversion Work
Momentum without a story about who's buying is just a headline. Creatio's enterprise segment did the work this quarter: the number of customers generating more than $1 million in annual recurring revenue doubled over the past year, and accounts including Nasdaq, MetLife, Colgate-Palmolive, AMD, and Howdens sit on the customer list the company disclosed with the results (Creatio, 2026).
Financial services is the vertical worth watching. Creatio shipped six prebuilt banking agents earlier this year, covering referral routing and renewal management, workflows specific enough that a horizontal automation platform can't ship them off the shelf. A bank buying Creatio buys a studio that already speaks its language, a harder thing for a competitor to match than a pricing page.
IT Isn't Losing Ground. It's Getting Its Backlog Back
Every field a business user builds in Business Studio is a ticket an application team never has to staff. That's the part of this story information technology teams tend to like best. A sales director configuring her own qualification criteria is a request that doesn't compete for a spot on the backlog against a core-systems migration or a security patch cycle.
The governance work still happens, just at a different layer. Schema standards, role permissions, and process guardrails get configured once, at the platform level, instead of negotiated project by project. IT sets the boundaries. Business teams build inside them without opening a ticket to do it.
Creatio's studio model sells speed to business leaders. What it delivers to IT is capacity.
If a platform is freeing your application team from routine business-side builds, track where that freed capacity goes next. A backlog that shrinks and stays shrunk is a resourcing win. One that just refills with different tickets isn't.
