I bought a Google Pixel 11 and tried to scan my Abbott Libre 3 Plus the way I did on the last phone. I laid the back flat on the sensor. Nothing happened.
Same miss on a passport chip. Same miss if you treat a tap-to-pay pad like a charging coil and drop the middle of the phone on it.
Google moved the Near Field Communication antenna to the top of the Pixel 11 series so two phones can tap at the top for Tap to Share. The hardware diagram puts NFC on the upper back, near the top edge, not under the camera bar the way Pixel 10 did (Google, 2026).
Tilt the Top Edge onto the Chip
Hold the phone at an angle. Put the top edge on the Libre sensor, the passport page, or the reader. Keep it still for a second.
Libre 3 Plus still starts with an NFC scan. Bluetooth carries the readings after that. If the first tap fails, the rest of the app looks broken when the antenna is two inches away from the sensor.
A U.S. passport chip sits in the back cover. A U.K. chip sits in the front cover. Google Wallet already tells you to try a different hold if an ID pass will not read, because the antenna can sit near the top or the bottom depending on the phone (Google, 2026).
Lay the Pixel 11 flat and the scan misses. Tilt the top onto the chip and it reads.
Check NFC Before You Blame the Reader
Open Settings, Connected devices, Connection preferences, NFC. Turn Use NFC on. A thick case can block a weak tap. Pull the case if the first angled try fails.
Google published the labeled hardware diagram for Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, Pixel 11 Pro XL, and Pixel 11 Pro Fold. On the fold, NFC sits on the outer display side near the top. The same tilt rule applies.
If you issue phones to people who scan sensors, badges, or passports, do they know the Pixel 11 tap point moved, or will help desk hear "NFC is broken" all week?
