Orca Security split its Black Hat 2026 launch into two products because it split its own definition of who writes code. AI Code Security Auditor covers engineers inside the development pipeline. AI AppGen Security goes after everyone else, the employees using AI tools to ship working software security never signed off on.

Fifty-two percent of organizations now build custom applications with AI, according to Orca Security's State of AI Security Report 2026, based on telemetry pulled from more than 1,200 production cloud environments. That number describes a workforce that includes finance analysts, marketers, and operations staff shipping working software without touching a pipeline security ever monitors. Orca's Product Marketing Leader, David Hood, made the same point in a conversation on the show floor at Black Hat USA 2026: the builders security teams need to worry about now are rarely the engineers.

Two Products For Two Kinds Of Builder

On July 29, 2026, Orca announced AI AppGen Security and AI Code Security Auditor, unveiling both ahead of Black Hat USA 2026 and demonstrating them at booth 5115 in Las Vegas. AI Code Security Auditor runs AI-driven analysis across a full repository, aimed at vulnerabilities that traditional static analysis tools miss. AI AppGen Security looks outside that repository, finding applications employees build on AI-powered platforms like Claude, Supabase, and Lovable, then mapping what each one touches across application programming interfaces, cloud resources, and stored data.

General availability for both arrives later in 2026.

The Cost Of Not Knowing Who Built What

IBM's Cost of a Data Breach Report 2025 found that breaches involving shadow AI cost organizations $670,000 more than standard incidents, a premium linked to longer detection times. Orca's own research points to the scale of exposure behind that figure. More than half the organizations it surveyed for its 2026 report build applications with AI, and Orca's launch bets that security teams are blind to where that building happens.

Orca is betting that citizen-built software and engineer-built software belong on one platform, not two markets. That bet pays off only if Orca can see what business teams build before a breach forces the issue.

What Orca Hasn't Said Yet

Orca has not disclosed pricing for either product, and it hasn't specified how AI AppGen Security tells a sanctioned low-code deployment from an unsanctioned one at the moment of discovery. The company also hasn't said whether detection extends beyond the three platforms named in its announcement to the wider field of AI app-builder tools running inside enterprise accounts.

What CIOs Should Watch

  • AI AppGen Security is due later in 2026. Will it cover enough ground on day one to matter?
  • Other cloud security vendors are watching this two-track split, one product for engineers, one for citizen builders. Does it become the standard architecture, or stay an Orca bet?
  • New AI builder tools keep entering enterprise accounts. Orca named three platforms. Where does coverage go from there?
