Google Puts a Meeting Notes App on the Mac and Keeps the Audio on the Computer

You type short bullets during the call. The app expands them from a transcript that stays on the machine.

I would trust notes that stay on the machine more than notes that have to leave it.

Google added an experimental Mac app this week called Google AI Edge Foresight. It listens to a meeting, expands the short bullets you type, and answers questions from files on the computer. Google says the audio, the transcript, and those files stay on the device. There is no cloud fee.

The app captures the microphone and the computer’s system audio, so it works with a video call or a meeting in the room, and it can run with no internet. Ivan Mehta at TechCrunch wrote on October 8 that the layout is a split screen, with your notes on one side and the generated notes on the other. You can open the transcript. A Gemma 4 assistant answers questions about the meeting. You can also load PDFs, Google Docs, Microsoft Office files, plain text, Markdown, and web bookmarks into a local knowledge base.

The audio does not leave the computer.

The search model is EmbeddingGemma 2. Sahil Dua and Henrique Schechter Vera at Google DeepMind announced it on October 6. Google says the model has 740 million parameters, uses the Gemma 4 architecture, and is under an Apache 2.0 license. It maps text, images, audio, and video into one space so a local search can match a question to a file. On a Pixel 11 Pro, Google says the quantized text-only weights need about 191 MB of active memory, and the full model about 567 MB. Foresight pairs that model for file lookup with Gemma 4 for the written answers. Google says the app is optimized for Apple Silicon.

This is a Labs app, not a Workspace product. Android does not get Foresight. Pixel phones have Recorder, which transcribes on the device with Gemini Nano. The AI Edge Gallery app on Android and iPhone shows Instant Media Search and Video Moments Finder, which search photos and video on the phone. Google Meet’s Take notes for me writes a Doc in Drive and needs an AI plan or a Workspace plan.

Google has been putting other on-device tools on the Mac. AI Edge Gallery lets a Mac run Gemma models locally. AI Edge Eloquent is a dictation app that can run without the cloud. TechCrunch reported that the team behind the April dictation tool released Foresight.

What to check

Ask whether the rooms that need notes can use a Mac, and whether the team will accept a Labs app for meetings that cannot leave the building. If the standard machine is Windows, this app does not cover that desk.
