Teams that run Braze beside Salesforce can already connect the two with a partner-built connector, and on October 20 Salesforce signed a definitive agreement to buy Braze at an enterprise value of about $5.66 billion (Salesforce, Oct. 20, 2026). Salesforce expects the deal to close in its fiscal year 2028, a window that runs from February 2027 through January 2028.

Braze messages customers at the moment they act

Braze is software that lets a company's marketers message customers based on what those customers do. A shopper adds groceries to a cart in an app and leaves, for example, and Braze can send a push notification in real time, then follow with an email if the notification goes unread. The platform links messages like these into a sequence called a journey and also reaches customers through in-app messages and messaging apps such as WhatsApp.

Underneath, Braze runs on an event-streaming architecture that updates a customer profile as behavior arrives, and Salesforce says the platform handles trillions of messages and journey actions each year (Salesforce, Oct. 20, 2026). BrazeAI can help marketers optimize content, offers, channels, and timing.

Braze reported 2,789 customers as of July 31 (Braze, Sept. 8, 2026), and Salesforce's release names Canva and Instacart among them.

Salesforce Marketing Cloud starts from the customer relationship management side and connects to the rest of the Salesforce suite.

Patrick Stokes, Salesforce's president of applications and marketing, framed the goal as responding to a customer at the right moment. Salesforce expects Braze's real-time engagement and AI decisioning to complement all four layers of its architecture: Data 360, Customer 360, Agentforce, and SIForce.

Common ownership could simplify coordination, and the operating details are still open

Braze's marketplace already lists Massive Rocket's bidirectional Salesforce connector, and the comparison guide from Vantage Point says many firms run both products, with Braze handling app and real-time engagement while Marketing Cloud handles email-led programs. Its advice for those teams is to keep one consent model and a clear rule for which platform sends which message.

Common ownership could simplify escalation, and the announcement does not describe how support, contracts, and consent management will work across the two products after closing.

Braze chief executive Bill Magnuson said the company will "continue building as Braze" and keep investing in its customers and partners. Braze remains an independent public company until the deal closes.

Technology is the clearest gain for Salesforce, and new customers depend on overlap

Technology is the clearest gain, judging by Salesforce's release, which spends most of its words on Braze's real-time architecture and mobile channels and credits co-founders Bill Magnuson and Jon Hyman with expertise in mobile experiences and data engineering.

The deal closes in Salesforce's fiscal 2028, and Salesforce expects no change to its fiscal 2027 guidance. Braze's quarter ended July 31 brought $227.2 million in revenue, up 26.2%, and the company guides fiscal 2027 revenue to a range of $910 million to $913 million (Braze, Sept. 8, 2026).

Dollar-based net retention, the change in spend from existing customers, was 110% for the trailing twelve months ended July 31 (Braze, Sept. 8, 2026). Dividing the $5.66 billion enterprise value by the midpoint of that guidance gives about six times fiscal 2027 revenue, by my arithmetic.

The customer gain depends on how many of Braze's accounts already run Salesforce, a figure neither company has published. Braze counted 361 customers with at least $500,000 in annual recurring revenue as of July 31 (Braze, Sept. 8, 2026). An account that uses Salesforce customer relationship management but not Marketing Cloud sits somewhere in between.

Identity matching, consent synchronization, journey ownership, and the post-close product roadmap are still open.

My Contentful thesis meets a shareholder vote at Braze

In my post on the Contentful deal, Salesforce Points Contentful at Its Customers' Prospects, I wrote that Salesforce's acquisitions favor software that sits adjacent and connects over interfaces. Contentful, a private company, closed on September 1. Braze is a public company, so the deal needs a shareholder vote and regulatory approvals, and Salesforce's own estimate spans a fiscal year.

Existing connectors give customers a starting point. Identity matching, consent synchronization, journey ownership, and the post-close product roadmap are still open.

CIO/CTO Viability Question
Pull your Braze and Marketing Cloud contracts this week and list which channels each one sends today. If you run both, which platform holds the master record of who agreed to be messaged, and can your Salesforce account team confirm that answer in writing before the deal closes?
