Key Takeaway
Salesforce will soon sell three ways to put an artificial intelligence agent on a customer phone call. Headless 360 lets each acquisition plug into the platform as an add-on, so customers keep the contact center software they run today. Your team still decides which product answers which call.

Salesforce signed a definitive agreement on Monday to acquire Cresta, whose voice agents take complex customer calls from greeting to resolution while the same platform coaches human representatives in real time and analyzes every interaction. Cresta runs those agents for brands including Marriott, Comcast and Alaska Airlines.

Salesforce plans to pair Cresta with Service Cloud so each conversation connects to the customer and to the outcome it drives. After the deal closes, Cresta will keep supporting the contact center and telephony platforms its customers use today. Salesforce expects the deal to close in the first quarter of its fiscal year 2028, which runs February through April 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.

The deal adds voice to a list of 2026 Salesforce acquisitions that already covers service agents and customer messaging.

Salesforce Has Signed Ten Acquisition Agreements This Year

The acquisitions page on the Salesforce newsroom lists nine agreements announced in 2026 before Cresta. Salesforce agreed to pay about $3.6 billion for Fin, the customer service agent company once known as Intercom, and closed that deal on September 10 (Salesforce, 2026). In October it agreed to buy Braze, the real-time customer messaging platform, at about $5.66 billion in enterprise value (Salesforce, 2026). Earlier agreements brought in Contentful for structured content and m3ter for usage-based billing. On the day it announced Cresta, Salesforce also completed two earlier deals: Listen Labs, an AI customer research platform, and Loops, an AI analytics platform that joins Tableau.

I covered the Fin deal in June and the Braze deal in October. A buying pace like this one would strain most software companies, because folding each product into the core platform can take years. Salesforce shortened that wait in April.

Headless 360 Lets Salesforce Sell an Acquisition as an Add-On

Salesforce launched Headless 360 at its TDX developer conference on April 15, 2026. It exposes the platform's data, workflows and governance controls as application programming interfaces, Model Context Protocol tools and command-line commands, so an agent or another product can call on Salesforce from outside its user interface. In August, Salesforce extended the approach across marketing, sales, service, commerce, MuleSoft, Informatica and Tableau.

My read is that Salesforce lowered the cost of every acquisition it has signed since April when it shipped Headless 360. In the usual software pattern, a buyer rebuilds an acquired product on its core platform over a multiyear project, and customers wait for the combined version. With Salesforce capabilities reachable through open interfaces, Cresta can keep its own voice engine and connect each call to the customer record in Salesforce. You buy it as an added product next to Service Cloud and start using it.

Customers also get a better experience from an add-on than from a migration. You keep the phone system you have and add Cresta's agents and coaching on top, and the call history lands where your service team already works.

Salesforce can buy at this pace because outside products can now reach more of its platform than they could a year ago.

Cresta Already Works Inside Other Vendors' Contact Centers

Cresta built its business as a layer on top of existing contact center software. Cresta's website lists integrations with NICE CXone, Genesys Cloud CX, Five9, Amazon Connect and Twilio, and names several of those companies as sales partners. Customers keep their existing telephony when they add Cresta.

Salesforce built its own voice products on the same model. Service Cloud Voice has worked with Amazon Connect since 2020, and Salesforce supports other providers through its partner telephony option. The promise that Cresta will keep supporting those platforms after close preserves the multivendor design its customers chose. A contact center that runs Genesys or NICE can add Cresta under Salesforce ownership and keep its phone system, which should widen the group of Service Cloud customers ready to buy it when the deal closes.

You Will Have Three Salesforce Voice Agents to Choose From

Once the deal closes, a Salesforce customer can put an agent on a phone call with Agentforce Voice, built on the platform; with Fin, which Salesforce finished buying on September 10 and which handles phone alongside chat and messaging apps; or with Cresta. Momentum, which Salesforce agreed to buy in February, is designed to pull conversations from other companies' voice and video tools into Agentforce 360 and Slackbot.

Salesforce has described each product for a different buyer. It positioned Fin as the fast-to-deploy option for small and midsize businesses and some commercial organizations that want a short path to launch. The Cresta announcement points at complex, high-volume calls for some of the largest brands. Salesforce describes Agentforce as its customizable platform for teams that build and tune their own agents.

Headless 360 lets all of these share one customer record. Routing calls among them is a decision for your contact center team, so put two items on your list before the close:

  • Map which call types go to Agentforce Voice, Fin or Cresta, and ask your account team how each product is priced when more than one runs in the same contact center.
  • Confirm where recordings, transcripts and coaching data live once Cresta runs inside your Genesys or NICE environment under Salesforce ownership, and decide whether you keep buying Cresta through your contact center vendor or move that contract to Salesforce.
CIO/CTO Viability Question

If Cresta runs inside your Genesys or NICE contact center and reports into Service Cloud after the close, which contract governs your call recordings and coaching data, and has Salesforce put that answer in writing?

Ask your Salesforce and contact center account teams for that answer before you renew either contract in 2027.
