I love making this with newspapers. Back in India I would stick the pieces with an adhesive and attach it to the ceiling fan and then the airplane would really fly.
I guess this is another reason to love newspapers.

Washington Post : Bring the Business Section Back
I have been a avid reader of the Washington Post. I like the print version and my job even though online leaves me too busy to read the paper online. I get up before 6 a.m so that I can get a few minutes to read the A section, business, metro and Style in that order.
A few weeks ago ( maybe months ago) , when the Washington Post moved the business section to the A section I considered it a promotion, Not anymore. I loved to see the share prices specially of companies that I liked like Marriott, GE etc. I loved to see the price of the dollar to the rupee. I liked the national and international news coverage and the features.
Sadly all that is missing. I think the Washington Post should have considered an increase in price and not giving up on the Business Section.
I am thinking of a Facebook group to influence the Post to bring the Business Section back. IF you are game please comment here.
IF my efforts do not succeed I may defect to the Washington Busines Journal who lead by Alex orfinger seem to be doing innovative campaigns like the one in this picture. Kudos to them. Kristina Bouweiri reads both and likes both . Maybe there is a case to be made for good local business coverage in the Washington Business Journal. What do you think?
PS: Typed with my toddler doing his best to distract me :)

Six Apart to Word Press - Let us Plug -in -Anil Dash
Aaron Brazell (@Technosailor) did a great job in getting Anil Dash from Six Apart to keynote at the WordCamp ( A gathering of avid fans and developers of Word press which is a blogging software).
While in a traditional world Six Apart and Word press are rivals, in Anil Dash's vision it is a way for Six Apart do what is right for the community of internet users. he sees a world of connected networks sharing information.
Details of the Six Apart plug-ins for Word press are at http://www.sixapart.com/wordpress

Shashi Tharoor wins In Indian elections and affects my Google results
Shashi Tharoor served as the UN Under-Secretary General for Communications and Public Information between June 2002 and February 2007, during the term of Secretary-General Kofi Annan. He is an author, journalist, human-rights advocate, humanitarian and adviser or fellow of various institutions. After an unsuccessful attempt to become the UN Secretary General Shashi Tharoor went back to India and stood for elections.
The exciting news is that Shashi Tharoor won in the 2009 General Elections held in India from the Southern State of Kerela. While I am excited about this and think this is good for India here is how this affects me. Before this the first 3 results for the term "shashi" on Google I had to share the top 3 results with Shashi Tharoor, Shashi Kapoor ( A very seasoned Bollywood actor of note) . Now I am now no 4 after multiple Shashi Tharoor results.
Well its not about me , I think Indian politics should have more people of the calibre of Shashi Tharoor specially with International experience. Good luck Shashi ! and I hope you will leave me a comment here .

New Comm Forum : Shel Holtz talks about Social Media and Crisis Communications Revisited
I was at Society for New Communications Research SNCR's New Comm Forum last month where Shel Holtz delivered the closing keynote of the opening day at the Society for New Communications Research New Communications Forum on Monday, April 27, 2009.
For new comers like me it was full of details for what every company should be doing and what has changed from the traditional way of public relations. Shel Gave a lot of examples of recent Crises and also reasons why companies should use social media for crisis communications. I loved his advice on how blogs are a prerequisite because the media reads them and also why "media should be released into the wild" to get to a larger audience. As part of the presentation Shel also illustrated a good example of @CDCEmergency working hard to put out good and timely information on the H1n1 "Swine flu" .
His closing advice :
- Communicate well to employees and use them to spread the word.
- Drill and practice crisis communications through the entire organization
